Sweeter Than Chocolate - Week Six!

Good morning Girls!

As we enter into our final week of study, it is proving itself to be one that requires time for deep contemplation.

I will be posting my final thoughts this week on Thursday morning in order to give you the necessary time for personal reflection as you work your way through the last four stanzas of Psalm 119.

May God bless you as you finish this week strong!

With love,

Welcome, pull up a chair and visit for a while. What is on your heart today, what are those things that God has been showing you through your study of His Word?

Think upon these things, soon the other girls will be coming in to talk, to ask questions of their own and to encourage you in your walk with Christ!

Good morning Cathie and to all my blessed sisiters in Christ,

I am so excited this morning. I was working on my study late last night when I got to the question aboout the Hebrew word for salvation which the psalmist hoped and longed for. YESHUA!!! Meaning help, deliverance. saving. I knew I had heard that word as a name of Jesus so I checked out a website called Jesus Explained which showed up after serarching for the Hebrew Name of Jesus on the internet. This site talked of the oneness of the trinity; " From the beginning He was known as Jehovah. Jehovah was the Creator. He was the Old Testament God. He was the Lawgiver,the Revelator, the Wonderful, the Terrible......The Father and the Son shared a great love for each other. But they also shared a great love for all men on earth. The Father had it in his Plan to command His omnipotent Son, Jehovah, to leave His royal courts on high, .....to take His home among ordinary men. The name was a clue from the Father, The Father wanted holy men and women to recognize His Son as Jehovah. So He sent Gabriel to make sure He was given the name Yeshua, the Hebrew name of Jesus, which would point straight back at who He was before He was born. The name means Jehovah is Salvation." This particular site said the the Hebrew name of Jesus comes from the Hebrew root Yasha, meaning to deliver, rescue, or save; It was chosen and revealed as the personal name of our Lord. This name [ also found as Jeshua, Joshua, and Jehoshua ] was common among the ancient Jews, all meaning ddeliverance. I am going to do more looking as I know you have said we should be careful about commentators but I was beside myself last night to see how everything in the Bible fits together to point to our Lord Jesus as the Messiah.
More later.

Hey Jan! Why I need to post on Thursday is beyond me... you GOT IT!

The Old Testament is FULL of JESUS, Psalm 119 is FULL of JESUS, Who is THE WORD. I have heard so often, over that past 18 years of teaching inductive Bible Study, that the God of the Old Testament does not resemble in anyway, the God of the New Testament. That Jesus meek and mild is preferable over the God of the Old Testament. (The meek and mild thing I never really fully got, but whatever).

Yet the opening verses of John make it absolutely clear, that Jesus is God. Period.

Jan, can you see the difference in you from when you first entered into this study group, what was it, a little over a year ago? I can do no less than REJOICE at what the Lord has done, and is doing in you.

...I'll be waiting for the "more later"!

Love you,
Cathie

Way to go Jan!!
I put that word Salvation down too when she asked what words or phrases can you focus in for further study?
I had gone on with the study and forgotten about it, but now will persue it like you did.
How great it is when God reveals things to us through His Word, and how blessed we are to have all these resources to hand.

Wow Jan, What a wonderful job you did of Yeshua. Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us. You said it so beautifully.

Hi to all again,
In my further digging into the names of Jesus I found an article called "The Names of God" by Lambert Dolphin. It had oodles of information and seems quite interesting but I haven't finished it yet. It also has information about the Trinity. I printed because I have difficulty reading articles on the computer. It was 17 pages long! In case anyone wants to look at it the website is

Hi Girls'
This is been a wonderful week of study and Jan, your joy in what you discovered made my day! As I was reading what you had to say, I went to what I had written about the name "Jesus" and realized that this was the verse you were speaking of when you spoke of Gabriel being sent. In Matt 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

I also went into the question that was asked on Jesus' view of Scripture and then Paul's and Peter's views and I know I have just begun to scratch the surface but found some wonderful scriptures. I think what impacted me the most was when Jesus was tempted by satan in the wilderness, each time Jesus answered with, "It is Written."
Then Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16,17 "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
That is all the inspiration I need!

What a gift we have been given by GOD'S WORD and the WORD BECAME FLESH and THE WORD DWELT AMONG US!

Jesus, The Name above ALL Names.

I am looking forward to seeing ALL of you. I have missed you.

Girls, one big thing that struck me in studying last night was V176..about us sheep straying...and what came to me Isa53:6 "ALL of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; BUT the Lord has caused the iniquity of us ALL to fall on HIM!!" tied in with the look at Zaccheus in Luke19:9-10 For The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost!!...We stray but He came and found us!!!Praise God!!!

This morning I found upon my doorstep this poem from an anonymous sister who has gone through the Sweeter Than Chocolate study with us.

It came with a note saying that she would not mind if it was posted on the blog... so I have typed it out for you girls to read.

Love, Cathie

A Prayer Psalm to the Good Shepherd (from a wandering sheep on the occasion of returning to the fold after inductively studying Psalm 119)
~~~
According to Your gracious word
be my hiding place - my shield
cast me not away, dear Lord
Despite the fact I often yield
According to Your gracious word
blameless I stand before You, Lord
comfort me when I cry out
deliver me from double-mindedness
According to your gracious word
establish my footsteps in Your way
forgive me when I go astray
guide me back into your way
According to Your gracious word
encircle me with Your arms of love
forsake me not when I forget to pray
gracious Lord, be my song
According to Your gracious word
hear me when I cry to You
Incline my heart to seek Your word
jealous let me be for your law
According to Your gracious word
help me to treasure Your commandments
instruct me - give me insight
judgement, knowledge, wisdom let me seek
According to Your gracious word
keep my feet from stumbling
look upon Your straying sheep
make me to follow in Your way
According to Your gracious word
keep my heart from deceitfulness
light my path with your commandments
make me to meditate on Your word
According to Your gracious word
near me be when oft I wander
open my eyes to understand -
perform Your promise-
be my portion
According to Your gracious word
never let me forget Your love
observe my desire to remember Your ways
peace and joy grant me always
According to Your gracious word
quench not this smoldering wick
revive me with Your word
sustain this bruised reed with Your promise
According to Your gracious word
quiet my heart with Your lovingkindness
remove my tendency to wander
strengthen Your servant when I stumble
According to Your gracious word
teach me to rejoice in Your testimony
upright let my actions be
vanity let me not pursue
According to Your gracious word
turn aside my feet from slipping
uphold me with Your righteous promises
vindicate me when I encounter affliction
According to Your gracious word
wait for me even when I wander
exceedingly I yearn for You
zealous let me be for Your word
According to Your gracious word
walk with me, although I stray
examine my heart;
I yearn for Your strength
to zealously keep me in Your word
TRUTHS LEARNED FROM STUDYING PSALM 119
Lord, I am Yours!
You are my hiding place;
Because I love Your law
I will have peace
And I will not stumble
But should I wander off like a lost sheep - seek me!
I'l recognize the sound of Your voice.
I thank our dear sister for sharing this with us. As I was reading through, Psalm 103:10-14 was replaying over and over in my heart.
If you have time, perhaps you can turn to this precious Scripture and read what the Lord would have us to know. What you will read there is not an open license to sin or to continue in outright rebellion against God; rather it is the assurance that we find in 1 John 1:9 towards those that have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
This precious sister's heart has obviously been moved - through her study of Psalm 119 - to long for God and for His ways and purposes to find fruition in her life. Praise God!
